Portage College Students & Staff Donate $15,000 to Health Foundation
Portage College students and staff presented a cheque for $15,000 to the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation in a heartwarming ceremony held on campus. The funds were raised through various campus initiatives throughout the year, demonstrating the incredible commitment of the college community to supporting healthcare in our region.
This generous donation will help purchase new medical equipment for the healthcare centre, ensuring that residents of Lac La Biche and surrounding areas have access to quality healthcare services close to home.
Community Impact
The donation represents months of dedicated fundraising efforts by students, faculty, and staff at Portage College. Various events were organized throughout the academic year, including:
- Annual charity run/walk event
- Bake sales and community dinners
- Silent auctions featuring student artwork
- Faculty and staff payroll donations
- Student council fundraising initiatives
Words of Gratitude
“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from Portage College and their commitment to healthcare in our community,” said the Health Foundation Board Chair. “This donation will make a real difference in the lives of patients and families who rely on our local healthcare services.”
“Education and healthcare go hand in hand in building strong communities. We’re proud that our students understand the importance of giving back.”
Equipment Purchase Plans
The Health Foundation plans to use these funds to purchase vital diagnostic equipment for the Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre. The new equipment will enhance the facility’s ability to provide timely and accurate diagnoses, reducing the need for patients to travel to larger urban centres for certain medical tests.
The Foundation continues to work closely with healthcare providers to identify the most pressing equipment needs and ensure that donations are used effectively to improve patient care.
